Despite our name, The New Bengal Tandoori is one the most established Indian restaurants in town. With well over 40 years experience we have had time to perfect the art of eating well.
Open times
Monday to Saturday
5:00pm till 11:30pm
Sunday
5:30pm till 11:00pm
Our menu offers a splendid array of the most exotic and enticing dishes each individually prepared by our chefs.

For starters we recommend the succulent results of cooking with the tandoori (charcoal oven) which gives that special flavour and fragrance to our food.
Then try one of our main course specialities based on the subtle combinations that form rich massalas to permeate lamb, poultry and fish of the very choicest quality. These dishes may be accompanied by one or more of the fresh vegetable dishes on offer, which by the way can provide a gastronomic feast in their own right.
If you are really hungry, a selection of freshly baked breads should help satisfy the most voracious of appetites.
Should there be room for dessert, why not try the Indian or english sweets or ice creams. Also an extensive range of Liquer coffees is available.
Our staff really care about the food too and will be delighted to advise or help coax an unsure palate.
We wish you a truly "memorable" meal, please now choose for yourself whatever you feel!
Best Wishes

The New Bengal is the best Indian restaurant in Newcastle. Great food and great staff.

This restaurant has been a staple part of my upbringing, ever since i can remeber my family have been eating and enjoying the marvelous food on offer at this establishment. My personal favourite is the indulgent Chicken Korma, eaten with the pilau rice and the deliciously fresh naan bread the likes of which i not experienced at any other indian restaurant in either Newcastle or Manchester. I have eaten in the best indian Restaurants in both cities and can categorically and unequivocally state that the New Bengal in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne is the greatest indian restaurant i have experienced.

This indian restaurant is located at one end of Gosforth High Street, at the end furthest away from town. Although it is within walking distance of the centre of Gosforth, there is limited local parking - although there is a small car park over the road, which would probably have spaces in the evening. The restaurant itself does do takeaways, and I would class the food for both eat in and take out as some of the best Indian cuisine in the area. Serving standard Indian fare, but all served and presented beautifully and tasting absolutely delicious - I particularly recommend the chicken tikka. Service is very good and the restaurant itself is very attractive inside, although it doesn’t look particularly special from the outside. Recommended for a nice adult evening out.

A few months ago I rang the New Bengal to order my favourite dish and a speciality of theirs, Gorkha Kana. Recognising my voice, the Manager, who had answered the phone, called me by my name and apologised that he didn't have any Gorkha Kana that night. Instead, he asked me to come down to the restaurant in 30 minutes by which time he would have cooked something typically Bangladeshi himself. He was true to his word, the meal was delicious (as it always is at the New Bengal), so much so that I rang him back to thanks him. My advice is to try the restaurant yourself and experience the warm welcome. You'll very likely see me there doing the same thing.

A true joy, spectacular food which never disappoints. Full of flavour and enough variety to satisfy all of my family. I've been an addict for years and now I have to fight my children for the biggest portions of this fantastic food!

I have been going here for years. Great food always, but a really genuine pleasant owner/manager who always seems to have time to greet you personally. A pleasure to be able to recommend him.
